Odoo now supports every major version for three years as standard. After that, Odoo Enterprise customers on Odoo.sh or on-premise can keep getting support, but Odoo adds a 25% legacy fee to the subscription. In October 2026 the versions in standard support are Odoo 18, 19 and 20. If you are on Odoo 16 or older, you are probably paying the fee already, and Odoo 17 users are next.
This post explains how the policy works, what the fee costs, and how to decide between upgrading, paying, or moving off Enterprise. All prices exclude GST.
What changed in 2025
Under the old policy, Odoo supported only the three latest major versions. Anything older was simply out of support.
In mid-2025 Odoo changed its Enterprise terms. Support now runs in two phases:
- Standard support covers the first three years after a version is released. It is available on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh and on-premise, at no extra cost.
- Extended support starts when standard support ends. It includes helpdesk, bug fixes and security updates, but Odoo says fixes are provided only where technically feasible. It costs extra and is available only on Odoo.sh (for a limited number of versions) and on-premise (for any version).
Odoo Online customers are not affected in the same way, because Odoo Online upgrades databases on a fixed schedule.
Partner reports suggest the new terms applied to subscriptions signed or renewed from around July 2025, with the first legacy charges appearing during 2026. Odoo’s own pages do not give a single start date, so check your contract and your next renewal date.
Which Odoo versions are supported in 2026?
From Odoo’s own support table, as at October 2026:
| Version | Released | Standard support ends | Status now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odoo 20 | September 2026 | September 2029 (planned) | Standard |
| Odoo 19 | September 2025 | September 2028 (planned) | Standard |
| Odoo 18 | October 2024 | September 2027 (planned) | Standard |
| Odoo 17 | November 2023 | September 2026 | Extended (Odoo.sh, on-premise) |
| Odoo 16 | October 2022 | September 2025 | Extended (Odoo.sh, on-premise) |
| Odoo 15 | October 2021 | October 2024 | Extended (Odoo.sh, on-premise) |
| Odoo 14 and older | Before 2021 | Before 2024 | Extended on-premise only |
Odoo.sh adds a hard stop. A version is removed from Odoo.sh on 31 October of the year it turns six. Odoo 14 goes on 31 October 2026, Odoo 15 in October 2027 and Odoo 16 in October 2028. After that date, databases still on the removed version are blocked.
How the legacy fee is calculated
Odoo’s Enterprise Subscription Agreement sets out the rule. Once a year, and no earlier than six months after a new major version is released, a database running a version older than the three most recent majors attracts an extra fee of 25% of the annualised subscription price. It is calculated on your current per-user price and your number of users and light users.
A simple example, using Odoo’s Australian Custom plan list price at the time of writing (October 2026) of A$80 per user per month on annual billing:
| Users | Annual licence | Legacy fee (25%) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | A$9,600 | A$2,400 |
| 25 | A$24,000 | A$6,000 |
| 50 | A$48,000 | A$12,000 |
Your own figure depends on your contract price, which may be lower than list. See Odoo pricing in Australia for the full price picture.
The fee is charged every year you stay behind. It does not buy you a version upgrade or new features. It buys continued support on the version you have.
What it means in practice
- On Odoo 16 or older: you are outside the covered versions, so the fee applies at your next annual charge if it has not already.
- On Odoo 17: standard support ended in September 2026. With Odoo 20 now released, expect the fee to apply at some point in 2027; the exact date depends on how your contract applies the six-month rule.
- On Odoo 18: you are covered until September 2027. Plan your next upgrade during 2027 rather than waiting.
- On Odoo Online: you will be upgraded on Odoo’s schedule. Make sure your Studio customisations and processes are tested each time.
Your three options
1. Upgrade now
You remove the fee, get current features and security fixes, and stay eligible for Odoo’s included upgrade service. The cost is a one-off project, mostly porting custom modules and testing. See How much does an Odoo upgrade cost?.
2. Pay the fee for a while
This can make sense if you have a firm reason to wait: a peak trading season, a system replacement, or a planned re-implementation. A useful test is to divide the expected upgrade cost by the annual fee. If the answer is under two years, upgrading usually wins. If it is much longer, paying for a year while you plan properly can be reasonable. Paying the fee indefinitely rarely makes sense, because the upgrade only gets bigger the longer you wait.
3. Stay on an old version without an Enterprise subscription
Some businesses consider dropping Enterprise and running Odoo Community on-premise. That removes the licence and the fee. It also removes Odoo’s support (Odoo offers no support contract for Community), the included upgrade service and every Enterprise-only app, such as full Accounting, Studio and many industry modules. Moving from Enterprise back to Community is a migration project of its own. We only recommend it after a careful look at which features you use.
Risks of staying on an old version
- Security. Extended support offers fixes only where technically feasible. Unsupported versions get none from Odoo.
- Compliance. Australian tax, payroll and e-invoicing requirements change. Newer Odoo localisation work is built for current versions first, and updates to older versions are not guaranteed.
- Integrations. Banks, payment gateways and other platforms update their APIs. Old connectors stop working.
- Hosting deadlines. Odoo.sh removes six-year-old versions each October.
- A bigger upgrade later. Each version you skip adds framework changes that your custom code must absorb in one go.
- Fewer people who know it. Partners and developers move on to current versions.
Decision table
| Your situation | Suggested path |
|---|---|
| Few or no custom modules, on 16 or 17 | Upgrade now. The fee will exceed the upgrade cost quickly |
| Heavy customisation, busy season ahead | Pay the fee for up to a year, scope the upgrade now |
| On Odoo.sh with Odoo 14 or 15 | Upgrade urgently. Odoo.sh removal dates are fixed |
| Planning to replace Odoo or re-implement | Pay the fee short-term and fold the change into the new project |
| Using only basic apps, very cost-sensitive | Consider Odoo Online on the latest version, or review Community with care |
| On Odoo 18 | No fee yet. Budget an upgrade for 2027 |

FAQ
Which Odoo versions are supported in 2026? As at October 2026, Odoo 18, 19 and 20 are in standard support. Odoo 15, 16 and 17 are on paid extended support on Odoo.sh and on-premise. Older versions are on extended support on-premise only.
What is the Odoo legacy fee? It is an extra charge of 25% of your annualised Enterprise subscription, applied once a year when your database runs a version older than the three most recent major releases. It applies no earlier than six months after a new major version comes out.
Does the legacy fee apply to Odoo Online? Odoo Online databases are upgraded on Odoo’s schedule and SaaS versions are not eligible for extended support, so the fee is aimed at Odoo.sh and on-premise customers.
When will Odoo 17 attract the legacy fee? Odoo 17 left standard support in September 2026. Under the six-month rule in Odoo’s agreement, expect the fee to start applying during 2027. Confirm the exact date against your own contract or with your partner.
Can I stay on an old Odoo version forever? On-premise, yes, if you pay the legacy fee or run without an Enterprise subscription. On Odoo.sh, no. Each version is removed in the October of the year it turns six.
Does the legacy fee include an upgrade? No. The fee pays for continued support on your current version. Odoo’s technical upgrade service is part of the normal Enterprise subscription, and porting custom modules is separate partner work.
